I haven’t because I was sceptical but I looked on their website, read the T’s&C’s and it does seem good.
Board Gais is the cheapest, guaranteeing 10% discount against ESB (on certain tariffs) plus an additional 2% if you are with Board Gais for your gas plus another 2% if you are going to pay your bill by direct debit. So its up to 14% discount for the first year.
In years 2 and 3 they guarantee they will be at least 5% cheaper.
if they ever do get to be more expensive (which I don’t see happening) or if another competitor becomes cheaper then you can cancel with (something like) 28 days notice!
I don’t see a reason not to change!
5% compared to ESB.
Even after the first year, if Airtricity can beat ESB by more then 5% then switch to them, as I said, no contract!
I have just purchased a repossessed house so I am unable to ask the previous owner who supplies their gas and electric. I contacted a favoured supplier and asked to switch to them they said that they cannot connect me for 6-8 weeks so in the mean time I have to stick with the current supplier but how do I find out who my supplier is?
Many thanks
Its a pre-pay system so no bills. Thanks for the help guys!

Hi
I am planning to change my electricity supplier.
I used to leave in the flat which was supplied by npower and i decided to switch my electricity supplier to Scottish power which was much cheaper but later on npower came to me and said that, I have to pay £5 a month for my meter as it originally belongs to the npower(something like this).
Now I have moved into the new apartment and my supplier is e.on which is my much more expansive than scottish power,so i am planning to change my supplier back to scottish power.
Do you think I would be charged £5 a month for that meter which originally belong to E.on.
is that story true at all,or npower was trying to take me back
thanks
British Gas has lowered electricity prices by 10%, but does that make now the perfect time for consumers to switch? ( compare-cheapest-gas-electricity.co.uk ) Obviously when these price reductions are coming into play, – like British Gas in the middle of February – a lot of people it will be too late. We’ve gone through the colder winter months and obviously those quarterly bills will be landing through your letter boxes fairly soon, and I expect that to be around 40%-50% of your annual bill, so it could be as high as £500 for the average customer.
I’m moving house soon and there’s a clause in my new rental agreement to say that our agent or landlord is authorised to request a certain company take over the supply and set up accounts in my name.
When I asked the estate agent about this clause (before signing the agreement) she explained that this company benefits tenants because they maintain your gas and electricity account so that we will always be paying the lowest amount for the two utilities.
However, I have been doing a bit of research on the net and have found that this company will charge us approximately £300 more per year than what we have currently been paying (and I’ll be moving to a smaller house!).
After the estate agent explained it all to me, she made it sound like a huge benefit, and so I did sign the agreement.
My question is, are they actually allowed to make you take a certain supplier (I saw on this suppliers website that agents and landlords get some sort of commission from all tenants they get moved to this company).
Surely, if it’s going to cost me so much more, I have some sort of right to stay with my current supplier?
Hi everyone, heres the thing… me and my partner moved into our current property about 2 and a half years ago. We set up an account with British gas, and needless to say they cocked up right away! We were both only 18 at the time and very naive, BG told us that based on the last 6 months consumption at the property they would set our monthly direct debit at £25 per month for gas, and £25 per month for electricity, we of course objected and told them we would use much more than this, did they listen? NO. So for two years we had a very low direct debit and there was nothing we could do about it…6 months ago BG decided out of the blue they were going to put our payments up as of course we were now in arrears of £1000 with them (500 for gas 500 for electricity), they have put our payments up to over £100 per month each, so £200 a month which is just way too much! We have really struggled to pay for the last few months and last month we couldnt pay at all, we are struggling with debt and have entered into a debt management plan as we have a baby on the way and things need sorting! What I want to know now is me and my partner are going to be moving house in a few weeks, are we able to just set up a new account with a different supplier, or will BG stop us from doing this? Both mine and my partners name are on the gas bill, but if we just stop paying them and have their debt added to our debt management plan and just move onto another supplier…could we do that? I really dont see what other options we have as we have made a lot of silly decisions since moving in here but now I want things sorted! Please help!
